One of the University of North Texas' eight selected RTVF Advanced Film Senior Films of Spring 2014.

Directors were chosen from a pool of forty potential candidates and went on to assemble a team of Producers, DPs, Editors, Talent, etc. to produce assigned screenplays from start to finish.

Not only was Martin selected to direct his own script, but it was - at the time - considered both the highest-budgeted short and the most VFX-heavy project to ever come out of the Advanced Film program.  Underwater photography, the RED Scarlet workflow, a large cast, uncompromising weather, near-unshootable locations, and the necessity for heavy CGI all preseted major obstacles.  However, The Three was created against the odds thanks to the near-obsessive dedication of an amazing cast and crew/students
(not to mention a 28-hour editing spree by Martin himself to meet deadlines).

After a successful premiere at the A-Film showcase that year, a short festival run, and a feature on two limited DVD prints, The Three had the distinct honor to be featured on КиноПоиск (KinoPoisk), a Russian outlet for bootlegged movies.
