My extremely West Virginian great-great grandfather, Henry Harrison James. . I saw this for the first time last night and immediately felt very connected to it. Although not as educated as his college-teaching brothers, Henry was a musical prodigy who chose to live in the mountains and taught his daughters an instrument each (my great-grandmother Arbutus was a drummer). This was also the man who - when Arbutus’ husband drunkenly threw a straight razor at her and beat her - immediately grabbed a shotgun and tried to kill the the husband in a chase through the woods. After being dragged to court, the judge ruled that the only crime Henry committed was “not being a better shot.” What a badass.

Woke up at 4am and wasn’t able to get back to sleep. The pain started to set in and I decided to get up and move. At 6am the sun rose, and I decided to shoot a short video of something I can only affectionately call “Stephen Porn”.

At 6am the sun rose, and I decided to shoot a short video of something I can only affectionately call “Stephen Porn”. This is a still from what I’m working on. It’s going to be weird, brash, overly sentimental, and exactly the thing Stephen would dissect until you got annoyed with him. I want to encourage anyone who may feel down or struggling to make some “Stephen Porn”. Its about as therapeutic as a weekend of binge drinking and video games. Most importantly, send it to me. So we can laugh, cry, and say what we think he would have thought. We can feel better doing exactly what was the most important thing to him. Putting more art out into the world.
